New council CEO has grand plans for region

HE has only been in his office for one month, but Southern Downs Regional Council's new CEO, Andrew Roach, has big plans for the region, including taking down the barriers left after amalgamation.

Mr Roach unveiled his plans at a networking breakfast with many Warwick business owners at the Warwick Golf Club yesterday.

The CEO said there were five main areas he wanted to work on over the next 12 months.

"The first is financial management and getting the council finances stable," he said.

The second area is advocacy.

"I want to make sure we are lobbying all government departments at both state and federal level," Mr Roach said.

"Third is governance, which is how we operate as a council."

Next on the list was economic development and fifth on the list was communication.

"This relates to how we communicate internally and with the community," he said.

"We are looking to improve our customer service."

Mr Roach said there was one other goal he would like to achieve in the next 12 months.

"It is a big one," he said.

"But I would like to achieve one council by breaking the barriers that have remained in place since amalgamation.

"There will be lots of team building activities."

The CEO said a similar breakfast was being held in Stanthorpe next week.
