New doctor in the Rose City brings decades of experience
WARWICK, meet your newest doctor.
The Rose City Medical Centre welcomed Dr Raj as the first doctor at the practice yesterday, and he is ready to get to work.
Dr Raj brings close to two decades of experience to Warwick, spending six years in hospitals and a further 12in a practice.
After more than a decade in Melbourne, Dr Raj said his wife and himself were looking forward to the regional move.
"It is a big move for me, but I've had it in my mind for a while to work in a place like this," he said.
"Just having a drive around, the houses are beautiful and the scenery is very green, and it is very relaxing.
"In Melbourne, sometimes you don't know your neighbour for years.
"The new practice has more facilities than I had in Melbourne. It is advanced and sophisticated.
"It makes my job easier, and the people here have been so welcoming and friendly."
Getting into the field was a dream of Dr Raj's for a long time, and he said he had some very special people to thank.
"From a young age it was my passion," he said.
"When I was small I would pretend to be a doctor. It was in my mind that I wanted to do it.
"My parents helped me to achieve this.
"My mum was a teacher and my dad a public servant in Sri Lanka.
"They had to spend the money to put me through university.
"There was three of us, so they struggled a bit financially.
"It's why I want to make them proud. Because of them I am doing this."
As for his new position, DrRaj said he and the team wanted to deliver for the people of the Rose City.
"We hope people will come here to get help, and they can talk to us about anything," he said.
"I want to help people with my experience. I like facing challenges.
"If there are any improvements needed or complaints, they can tell us
"We will be trying to give our maximum service to the people."
