FARMERS around the Rose City have a new helping hand, with the establishment of a new rural based financial consulting business in Swan Creek. Rod Garland, a rural financial counsellor with five years experience, started operating as R. Garland Consulting from his property on Yangan Rd three weeks ago.

With 13 years of banking behind him and a sound knowledge of drought and its effects, Mr Garland is hoping he can make a difference to the lives of struggling local farmers.

"It's certainly tough - this drought isn't over by any stint of the imagination," he said.

"This area has been drought declared for several months - things are getting tougher and tougher for farmers."
