Girl Guides Queensland Warwick unit needs new mentors
GIRL Guides Queensland Warwick unit has put the call out for new leaders to join the guiding movement.
Girl Guide Leaders Patrina Gardner and Sue Pulley will hand over the reins at the end of the year and need new leaders to step in and keep the 1st Warwick Guide unit from facing possible closure.
The two leaders have been involved in the local guiding movement for more than 20 years but with their own children all grown up it is time for them to move on and let a new generation take charge. Mrs Gardner said it would be a shame to see the unit close after so many years.
"Both Sue and I are retiring at the end of the year and we need some ladies to step forward and take our place, otherwise the unit will close," Mrs Gardner said.
"That would be such a shame because the girls get so much out of the guides."
Guiding in Queensland was established in 1919 and today Girl Guides Queensland is the largest youth organisation for girls and young women in Queensland with almost 6000 youth members and more than 1100 volunteer leaders and adult members. No matter how much time you have to give or the interests and skills you have to offer, there is a volunteer role in guiding to suit you.
To be a leader, you need to be a woman 18 years or over. To find out more or to register your interest, Mrs Gardner and Mrs Pulley will be running a stall at the Warwick West State School fete today.
