Council gives green light for new motel in Rose City

SOUTHERN Downs Regional Council has given the green light for a new motel to be built on Percy St.

Vicki Taylor and Scott Williams will open the motel doors as the Palace Hotel Motel managers.

The pair said they were over the moon with the news

Mr Williams said the exact dates were yet to be finalised, but they expected development to begin before the end of the year.

CDS Investment No.1 Pty Ltd is the current owner of the land and decided to expand the current Palace Hotel and bottle shop.

The company originally considered making the current liquor barn bigger, but decided a motel would be more beneficial for the town.

Morgan Park was a significant factor when the decision was made as the motel would provide car-lovers a place to stay during race meets and car shows.

Mr Williams said the 33-room motel would be built with the help of local tradesmen and materials.

"Warwick really needs this," he said.

"It needs another 30 jobs; it needs another 100 jobs.

"It also needs some business players who are willing to spend big on the town."

The pair said the motel would be a success for the Rose City.

"We get enquiries every day about booking a room so, the motel will be great," He said

"Warwick is a popular stopover destination and it will help out businesses at this end of town.

"Guests can park their cars and walk to everything.

"They can access all the shopping facilities."

The managers said the motel would be affordable and visitors could expect to pay a mid-level price per night.

In terms of looks, Mr Williams said the company would go for an interior that would suit Warwick.

"It will be fitted with decor to suit a small country town," he said.

The motel proposal hit a road bump earlier this month with the council delaying their approval for the decision.

Cr Jamie Mackenzie expressed concerns the "modern, sloping roof" would be out of character for the centre of the town.
