New pie machine is a bonus

THERE is a new addition to the Steele's Bakery team, and he's not afraid to show off.

The Little Oz has moved in to the kitchen and can pump out up to 1000 pies a day.

It leaves the humans lagging behind.

With his silver exterior and ability to save five hours of labour a day, The Little Oz has been a much welcomed machine.

Bakery owner Gail Steele said the pie machine was an economical move, to save the cooks time and effort.

"It cost about the same as paying a cook for a year, but it's faster and easier," Mrs Steele said.

"We both cook the meat, but I haven't got the strength to do the pastry, so Brad used to have to do that all on his own.

"It's saved Brad five hours a day, and he hasn't stopped smiling."

The machine found a home in the kitchen earlier this week, and Brad Steele said he couldn't be happier.

"We've only used it a couple of times so far, so once I get used to it, it will be great," he said.

Brand new, the machine costs about $55,000.
