New president for Warwick Turf Club

THERE has been a swap at the Warwick Turf Club.

The club announced at Friday night's Warwick Cup launch that Phil Grant will take over the role as club president.

Grant, the former vice president, will swap places with former president Jim Costello, who has stepped down to the role of vice president.

Grant said he reluctantly accepted his new role.

"I would have preferred Jim to stay," Grant said.

"But don't get me wrong I'm happy to do it.

"One of the reasons I accepted is because Jim will stay around as vice president and it'll be handy to have him there, he's got a wealth of experience.

"I'm not going to change too much."

Costello said he thought it was time for someone else to have a go at the presidency.

"I had four or five years in the role," Costello said.

"I thought it was time for a change, time for someone else to come in with fresh idea and a new approach.

"There's no issue; I quite enjoyed the presidency but these things don't go on forever."

The change is one of multiple changes among the club's committee.

Grant thanked those who were no longer part of the committee, in particular, long-serving member Len Doyle.

The Warwick Cup will be held on Saturday, October 11.
