New venture to freshen up Palmerin St

SEVEN months after expanding her business ventures into a fresh new space in Palmerin St, Sarah Littleproud is taking on another new challenge.

From her Mr Rental business, Mrs Littleproud diversified into home furnishings with Galleria Interiors and is adding a fresh, organic cafe to her portfolio in the former Bryson's Florist space.

Galleria Interiors Cafe will replace Babybird Espresso from early April, and Mrs Littleproud said she was excited about the potential the new acquisition held.

"It was something I'd planned to do right from the start but it was too much to take on at the time,” she said.

"Now with Katie and Jim (Osborn) deciding to focus their energy into Bluebird Kitchen and Bar, the time is right to take over and add a new dimension to the business.”

Hoping to place a larger emphasis on food, with a basic menu and a daily special, Holly Lubben will join with Mrs Littleproud to run the cafe.

The front area of the shop will be revitalised to incorporate a shady alfresco dining area, complete with umbrellas and greenery.

A Toowoomba coffee brand has been added to the fold as well as a partnership with an organic tea company.

"I want to keep everything as local as possible,” Mrs Littleproud said.

"And everything will be fresh and homestyle, with all the cooking done by Holly and myself.

"And they'll be a great emphasis on the design of the cafe area - I'll be looking for a particular style, to promote a great atmosphere, a whole inviting new look and feel where people will hopefully be very comfortable.”

Babybird owner Katie Osborn said the decision to pass Babybird onto Mrs Littleproud had been a tough one.

"We have found Bluebird Kitchen and Bar is just growing in massive leaps and bounds across the last couple of years,” she said.

"With our functions, pop up restaurants and competition circuit planned, we felt we needed to shift our primary focus back to Bluebird.

"We have extended our trading hours and are looking at releasing a retail range both in store and online with a potential clothing line released later this year.”

Babybird Espresso will cease trading on Saturday, March 17 and Galleria Interiors Cafe will undergo a facelift before reopening for business on Tuesday, April 3.
