New Warwick emergency department opens doors

TODAY will be the first time patients set foot in the $3million newly refurbished emergency department at Warwick Hospital.

This morning the facility will reopen to the public, with double the number of treatment bays - up from three to six beds.

It also features a specialised pediatric treatment bay, four new short-stay beds and three triage spaces.

"We will start seeing patients in the new emergency department on Tuesday,” director of nursing Anita Bolton said.

"Treatment of patients in the refurbished department will commence at some point during the day.

"The switch from the temporary ED to the refurbished department will depend on the workload over the the day.

"It's hard to predict what each day will bring in the emergency department.

"So we are asking people who are seeking emergency treatment at the hospital on Tuesday to please follow the signs or ask any one of our friendly staff members for directions.”

The new emergency department will be officially opened on Monday by Darling Downs Health Board chair Mike Horan.
