New X-ray service a boost for Warwick Hospital
A NEW and expanded medical imaging service has commenced operation at the Warwick Hospital.
The full-time service, run by Alpenglow Australia Pty Ltd, will operate under the name of Warwick Diagnostic Imaging and provide diagnostic radiology including X-rays, Orthopantomograms (OPGs), ultrasounds and CT (Computed Tomography) scans.
It also provides 24-hour emergency X-ray and CT services, as required.
Alpenglow underwent a merit-based tender process conducted by the Darling Downs Hospital and Health Service (DDHHS) to secure the service contract.
"The new, expanded service will mean greater access to high-quality medical imaging for patients of the Warwick Hospital and local residents," DDHHS Director of Medical Imaging Aiden Cook said.
"Private services to patients referred for medical imaging will also be available."
Warwick Hospital's Director of Nursing Anita Bolton said the new service was great news for local residents.
"We are very pleased that these services will be available full-time," Ms Bolton said.
"It will allow local residents and patients of the Warwick Hospital to access X-rays, ultrasounds and CT scans without the need to be transferred to larger hospitals such as Toowoomba or Brisbane."
Radiologist and Clinical Director of Alpenglow Australia Dr John Rouse said access to state-of-the-art, multi-slice, low radiation dose CT scanning would revolutionise the way patients are diagnosed and managed at the Warwick Hospital.
"It will negate the need for unnecessary transfers and will significantly enhance rapid diagnosis and treatment locally for the patients of Warwick and surrounding communities."
"We are very excited to now be offering this state-of-the-art imaging service to both the patients and public of Warwick and the surrounding towns."
The company has recruited local, experienced specialist staff to undertake the scans at the Warwick Hospital.
Alpenglow also has specialised regional radiology services in Dalby, Roma, Ayr and Goondiwindi.
"We have a well-established reputation of working with medical practitioners to provide state-of-the-art imaging services and the highest level of patient care in regional, rural and remote communities," Alpenglow Australia Chief Executive Officer Alan McCarthy said.
"The availability of this technology in Warwick will enable patients to be diagnosed and treated faster and ensure that they receive the best care close to home."
