New year and staff, same values at Warwick Christian College
THE Warwick Christian College this week welcomes new teachers, co-ordinators, admin staff and even a bus driver to its staff.
Stanthorpe's Trevor Cunningham joins the team wearing both the hats of bus driver and teacher aide.
He will make the daily trip from Stanthorpe to Warwick, bringing with him the Stanthorpe children who are also Christian College students.
This is the first year the school will offer a bus service from Stanthorpe to the Slade Campus.
Principal Jenny Lang said students and parents were committed to the school, despite the distance, because off its unique offering.
"We are the only non-denominational Christian school and people prefer to have that and the open values that come with it," she said.
Others joining the staff this year is teacher Cherling Kwok, teacher Pat Sheil, learning enrichment co-ordinator Tanya Biar, sports co-ordinator Marcel Cazaly, teacher aide Lesley Clayton, hub co-ordinator Bette Bonney and admin officer Sandy Singh.
Owen Bonney, who is the head of the campus on Canningvale Rd, has watched the school thrive and flourish into the success it is today.
"I was the first teacher here in 2007 and we started with seven students and now there are 160," he said.
"Initially it was just me and then there were two of us and then it grew exponentially.
Mr Bonney said the secret to the school's growth was simple.
"It's because we offer a service no-one else does, which is Christian values and compassion, care and empathy for families in strife."
