Newborn photography booms as new snapper arrives in town

BUNDLING a beautiful little bub into a flower pot for an adorable picture has transformed from a time filler at the shopping centre into an incredible form of art.

Newborn photography has soared in popularity over the last few years but new Warwick resident Laura Kubicek was doing it before it became trendy.

"They're really now images of art, posing a baby like that in a bucket isn't easy," Mrs Kubicek said.

"I think the standard of the photography has grown so much that it's led to mums and dads saying I want that artwork on my wall of my baby."

Snapping babies at shopping centres is how Mrs Kubicek started her career, but newborn photography has evolved to include cute props and perfect lighting.

Newborn photographers are popping up left, right and centre now, as parents look to capture the special first weeks after their child enters the world.

Mrs Kubicek said the style was special because babies are only tiny for so long.

"It's hard to imagine that your child was that tiny with tiny little toes and fingers," she said.

"It's a very exciting time to capture because it is fleeting."

Mrs Kubicek describes herself as a portrait photographer, but said she had always been drawn back to photographing newborns and babies.

"I've leant towards family photography because I get a sense of satisfaction knowing these pictures will be there for generations, that kids will look at them and say this is my grandma when she was a baby," she said.

The AIPP accredited photographer moved to Warwick over Christmas with her husband Jason and two sons, Jack and Harry, and is looking to set up a photography studio in May.

She has picked up cameras for as long as she can remember but now has 20 years experience and plans to set up a home studio where parents and little ones can feel comfortable.

She uses different props to complete the newborn scene, which may include heirloom blankets, teddies or baskets.

"I like the styling side of it as well, I love vintage things and I love collecting new pieces," Mrs Kubicek said.

"It's my job but it doesn't feel like work because I love it."

Mrs Kubicek will be offering specials when the studio opens, keep an eye on her Facebook page Laura K Photography - Warwick for details.
