NiE Dare to Dance
Dance is a world-wide, cross cultural activity that expresses ideas through rhythmic movement of the body. It is considered to be one of the first forms of communication - a means of passing stories on- and is used in ceremonies, rituals and celebrations.
Dance is also done as a social activity or performance experience that entertains audiences through the imagination and skills of choreographers, dancers, designers, composers and musicians.
Dance has its own content, vocabulary, skills and techniques. It is made up of the elements of body, action, space, time and energy.
In Australia, through education and promotion, dance companies have produced some outstanding dancers and choreographers who have developed the art form and raised its profile both on the national and international stage. Television programmes such as, So You Think You Can Dance and Dancing With the Stars, have further promoted the image of dance by educating the public about the many forms of dance and the skills involved.
