Nine decades of friendship for QCWA branch

THE Wallangarra QCWA branch celebrated its 90th anniversary last week with 80 guests.

State vice-president Elaine Kieseker and state international officer Sara Faddy were amongst the guests. Former members travelled some distance to attend.

Jean Hagan from Maranoa Division was one who travelled. Jean taught school in Wallangarra many years ago and was a member of the Younger Set, now known as Young Leaders.

Guests enjoyed a delicious afternoon tea and catch up time after the formal part of the program.

When the branch was formed in 1928, there were 22 members.

There has been much change in QCWA over the last 90 years and that has been reflected in the branch as well. Today there are eight members.

The branch is active in the Wallangarra community and members can be relied on to help wherever needed.

Driver Reviver during school holidays is just one of the ways.

Branch competition days are coming up soon.

If you would like to enter cooking, floral art, photography, knitting and crochet and the art contests contact Jenny Whitsed on 4664 8083 or jennywhitsed@hotmail.com for information on these contests.

Children are welcome to enter the international contests. There are also sections for children's entries in cooking and photography.

Art is open to all and categories include:

Still life (consists of an arranged setting, not a natural one).

Landscape (consists of picture or part of one representing inland scenery).

Contemporary (ultra-modern style, including abstract).

Congratulations to the winners of the Condamine Valley Warwick Branch bursary.

Hannah Marino from Stanthorpe attends the University of Queensland and is undertaking a dual degree in business and journalism and Christabel Kelly from Warwick is attending James Cook University, Townsville and studying physiotherapy.

The president and members of Border Division wish these students all the very best. Thank you to all who applied and best wishes for your future studies too.
