Nitro drag series a roaring success

JOHN Winterburn is certain the Nitro South Queensland Eighth Mile Drag Racing Series will return to Warwick Dragway next year.

“We have 140 entries and an excellent crowd on Saturday,” the organiser said.

“Some competitors couldn’t find a motel with rooms available so the event was good for the Warwick economy.”

Winterburn said Warwick driver Andrew Loy won the RD Williams Excavator Parts modified bracket.

“Andrew won in a field of 20 cars and was really happy with his win,” Winterburn said.

“He even came up and thanked me which is great coming from a young guy.”

Loy goes into round two at Roma on May 15 with the lead in his bracket. There are four rounds in the series.

A Super Charged Outlaw vehicle, which was in an exhibition bracket and not the series, hit the fence, and erupted into a fireball but the driver walked away due to the stringent safety standards set for those particular cars.
