No change at the top: Lister to contest state election
THE next state election may be roughly 11 months away but local members of the LNP feel they’re in safe hands.
Member for Southern Downs James Lister has been resoundingly endorsed by party members to be the LNP rep at the 2020 Queensland state election.
Mr Lister had more than 90 per cent of the vote from over 100 local party members.
The incumbent member was a popular choice at the meeting, held in Warwick on Saturday.
“It’s an internal party matter and I don’t comment on them, other than to say every candidate, whether they’re opposed or not, must go through a process to ensure the local membership support them,” Mr Lister said.
“I’m pleased that process is well under way in my case.”
Mr Lister was the only nomination for the Southern Downs candidacy, with the next Queensland election due on Saturday, October 31, 2020.
The endorsement must still be formally signed off by the party’s State Council, its governing body in Queensland.
The former Royal Australian Air Force squadron leader was elected to the role in November 2017.
