No committee nominations in Warwick football
FOOTBALL: Karen Welsh is hoping one of the 800 adults involved in football with the Warwick Wolves will come forward to take on the presidency of the association.
"We have 500 players and that means at least 800 parents are involved,” she said.
At the association AGM on Monday, there were 20 people in attendance but none of the positions were filled.
"I was quite surprised there were no prior nominations for committee,” she said.
Welsh has been president for the past year and said many people had encouraged her to stand for a second term.
"At the start of this year, I was a relief teacher but I have now taken on a permanent full-time position at Warwick State High School which has increased my workload,” she said.
"I have enjoyed being part of the association, the presidency was a positive experience but it would be nice if someone else would have a go.”
There will be another AGM on December 4 at the Warwick RSL Memorial Club at 6.30pm and Welsh is hoping some people will nominate on the forms on the Warwick Wolves website or on the night.
She said while there were 20 people at the first meeting, many were coaches.
"Coaches have training two or three times a week and already have a heavy workload,” she said.
"We can't expect them to run the association as well by being on the committee.”
Welsh said there were many association positives going forward, including a successful awards night at the end of the 2017 season. Prospective office bearers can call her on 0429335573.
