No cuts for rural firefighters

RURAL firefighters are here to stay after a backflip from the Minister for Police and Community Safety Jack Dempsey.

There will be no closures to the Rural Fire offices and no jobs cuts to the regional departments.

"Unfortunately as a part of this process, there will be a reduction in the number of full time equivalent positions, but this will be limited to executive and administration areas," Mr Dempsey said.

"I stress though, that no adjustments to the rural operations structure will take place until after the fire season in March 2013."

There will be a review of the Rural Fire Service but no jobs will be cut.
