No loss of competition spirit
SWIMMING: There was no shortage of healthy competition as Yangan State School swimmers took to the pool for their annual prep-Year 6 swimming carnival.
The carnival finishes off a week of training, that principle Rhiannon Downe said had been beneficial for all the children.
“Not many of these kids get to experience swimming,” Downie said.
“I suppose because were not exposed to bodies of water as frequently as other places close to the coast where swimming is really fundamental.”
While house points were up for grabs, Downie said abit of healthy competition never goes a stray at the carnival.
“Always, always, always – healthy competition is not a bad thing,” she said.
“Yangan does love a little bit of healthy competition but it’s all about putting their new swimming skills to use and having a good time.”
With approximately 60 of the school’s 70 students in attendance, Downie said the competition is a way to bring the Yangan school community together.
“It brings us all together on a Friday, it’s a nice way to start the weekend and it’s a nice way to get together as a community,” she said.
“We get a really big support from our parent body, and it’s great to see them come down and they get to join in too later.”
