No Prep Kaos to hit Warwick Dragway on Saturday
DRAG RACING: Royden Hardcastle will travel 13 hours from Shell Harbour on the New South Wales South Coast to Warwick for this Saturday's No Prep Kaos drag meeting, which has prizemoney of $10,000.
Hardcastle travelled to Warwick to watch Dragfest in October and this time will bring his car, a 1928 Dodge Senior 6.
"I have owned the car for the past 20 years and have drag raced it three times,” he said.
"I competed in my first drag racing meeting with the car in 2014 at the Sydney Dragway.”
He has been timed at 9.9 seconds for the quarter mile (400m) at a top speed of 137 miles an hour (220kmh) in Sydney.
Hardcastle said his car was one of the oldest in drag racing.
"The Dodge has its original steel body,” he said.
"We loved the atmosphere in Warwick and get on well with Loy family members who are heavily involved in the dragway.”
He will be running on street tyres in Warwick and is hoping for a six-second pass over the one-eighth mile (200m).
"The Dodge is a street registered vehicle. We could drive it to Warwick but will transport it on a trailer as it uses a 60-litre tank of fuel every 100 kilometres on the highway,” he said.
Hardcastle admits he is attracted to Warwick by the fun of the event and the prizemoney.
"The prizemoney is an added bonus, I have met a lot of fellow racers and they all love Warwick Dragway.”
His vehicle fits into the No Prep Kaos theme.
"It is breaking the mould a bit to have a street registered hot rod. Because this event is based on American style racing, we will throw a hot rod into the mix.”
The theme of the meeting is for drivers to head to Warwick Dragway on Saturday with a street car.
The aim is to simulate street racing,” club official John Loy said.
There are 50 nominations already with more welcome on www.warwickdrayway.com or on the day.
