No shock at loss of locks
AS SHE ran her fingers through her newly shaved hair, 14-year-old Abbey McNamara showed no signs of shock or sadness and with a smile spoke just one word - "shorter".
With that, the clippers were brought down to a number one, a bit more hair was lost but the smile remained.
The Scots PGC shaved her waist-length hair yesterday for the World's Greatest Shave, six years after her father, John was diagnosed with leukaemia.
Before she took a seat in the barber's chair, Abbey spoke of the night she found out the disease had hit her family.
She said she remembered crying herself to sleep that night, cuddled up to her parents, her sister, Beth and her little brother, Daniel.
She remembered the thoughts of "why has this happened?" and wondered how long she would have with her hero, her dad.
It is easy to see the experience has made her wise beyond her years and has given her an appreciation for what really matters in life.
"It's only now I have figured out we only have a small amount of time, so we have to live, love, enjoy and make the most of what we've got," she said.
Abbey has smashed her initial fundraising goal of $3000, with $6452.30 raised so far, and counting.
