Whoops! Coast features Noosa spot on waste brochure

LETTING go appears hard to do for Sunshine Coast Council, whose latest Guide to Waste Recycling brochure features a cover shot of Noosa Sound.

Noosa split from Sunshine Coast at the start of January although the wrangle over more than $20 million in disputed assets remains unresolved.

Sunshine Coast Council would not say how many of the brochures were printed, how much they cost nor where they were printed, but knew who to blame.

"It was part of the collection contractors 'contractual' obligations to prepare, print and distribute the guide along with a 'recycling week' calendar," a council spokesman said.

"A sufficient number of guides were printed to cover all Sunshine Coast residences."

That would mean at least 100,000 of the high-quality brochures were delivered over the past few weeks.

The spokesman said council's Waste Minimisation Strategy, to expire this year, was used as a guiding document during development of a new waste strategy, which was being drafted.

"It will provide a balanced approach to waste management across the Sunshine Coast Council region,'' the spokesman said.

"It will deliver integrated waste and resource-recovery solutions and assist in delivery of council's vision to become Australia's most sustainable region - vibrant, green and diverse.

"Performance indicators and action plans identified in the new strategy will be based on the Waste Management Hierarchy and align with waste-reduction targets identified in the draft Queensland Waste Avoidance and Resource Productivity Strategy (2014 - 2024)."

And that must surely be a win for the environment, if not for transparency.
