OPINION: Nuclear issue 'not just about Oman Ama'
THIS is not simply about Oman Ama - it is about the small communities nearby - those of Gore, Karara, Greymare and others - who risk being forgotten as headlines focus on just Oman Ama alone.
All regions within a 30k radius of the proposed site are likely to suffer a massive real estate value slump if this goes ahead - how would you like it if your property was too close for comfort, and your bank, for example, simply refused to either loan to you, re-mortgage or worse - foreclose due to a perceived or real loss of equity?
Think it can't happen?
Well, it's happening to farmers in drought areas, so it certainly could happen around here if this proposal is allowed to grow legs and live.
It is up to us - yes, us - here in the Southern Downs, to speak out.
It's up to our elected state representative, and our elected leaders in SDRC, to act on our behalf and defend our region.
What's that I hear - silence?
After all, Warwick and Stanthorpe fall well within an 80k radius from the proposed site.
