NRL game is a must for Warwick community

WHAT about the Warwick Cowboys getting all the footy people together and going for an NRL trial game at the beginning of next season?

I can't recall such a game in Warwick.

At one stage, we had the Broncos Colts in the TRL but I don't remember a Broncos game in Warwick for the NRL players.

I know that the Gold Coast Titans are working in with the TRL but my view is that the best drawcard would be Brisbane, especially with coach Wayne Bennett list and recruitment manager Peter Nolan having as much Warwick in them as long stayers like me.

It could be the weekend when the Broncos would often send two squads away for the first footy of the season.

There is no reason it couldn't be Broncos versus Gold Coast Titans at Father Ranger Oval.

Such a game would be great for the economy and there is enough rugby league tradition around Warwick to put up a good case.

I am sure Southern Downs Regional Council would be keen to work with the footy people to bring a game to Warwick. If Toowoomba can have an NRL competition game, we can have an NRL trial game.

You would only need six NRL regulars in the team to make it a success.

Friday night footy

GREAT to see Friday night footy in Warwick again.

I know there is a bit of Friday night footy in junior rugby league but not much at open level.

Warwick plays Bears on Friday night in B-grade rugby.

The aim of the Water Rats is to one day return to A-grade but they first need to make the B-grade finals in 2018.
