NRL player/TRL coach lists his coaching priorities
COACH'S CORNER
AFTER playing 202 games in the NRL and Super League, Travis Burns is home at Allora and the new player/coach of the Wattles Warriors A-grade side.
His first coaching was last season with the Wattles under-7 side which included his son Jake.
He has plenty of experience under top NRL coaches, including Des Hasler and Matt Elliott.
Burns talks about his coaching methods:
This is my first crack at senior level footy.
Obviously with the side we have put together, we have a lot of quality attacking players such as Matt Duggan and Jackson Green and plenty of skill in the forwards.
Defence is a massive part of the game and a lot comes down to attitude.
If you are willing to put your body on the line for your teammates, it goes a long way to having a good defensive side.
As in any footy, if you complete 80 odd per cent of your sets, you will be right in the game.
You want to play some exciting footy but ball control will be a big thing for me.
To do the things I want to as a coach, we will need a fit team. A lot of my fitness work will be skill based with ball in hand rather than running around the oval.
Training has to be tough but also fun.
