Number up on forgery
A SMALL number added to a prescription has spelt big trouble for a woman who tried to score her partner some extra painkillers.
Neva-May Joyce Ives added a number "2" to the repeat section of her boyfriend's Panadeine Forte prescription to avoid having to return to hospital.
The 22-year-old took the forged document to a local chemist on June 14 but the inconsistency of the document was picked up by attentive staff.
An employee noticed the handwriting used for the repeats differed to that of the rest of the prescription and called police.
A heavily pregnant Ives this week told the Warwick Magistrates Court she was sorry for her actions and only committed the crime to help her boyfriend, who suffered from chronic back pain.
He didn't know she had altered the prescription.
"I did know it was a crime but I didn't realise it would cause that much drama just by writing a number two on it," she said.
The mother of three this week pleaded guilty to charges of forgery and uttering. The court heard Ives had a history of similar offending and just last year was convicted of fraud for writing bad cheques.
She was fined $300 and no conviction was recorded.
