Numbers add up for our SES

LOCAL Controller for Warwick SES John Newley said Warwick has 30 SES volunteers, as well as 21 potential new volunteers thanks to its annual recruitment drive, which was held on Tuesday evening.

Queensland has the second-highest number of State Emergency Service volunteers per head of population, a recent Government Services report revealed.

Mr Newley, who is in his 34th year with the SES, said the team of volunteers is an integral part of the Warwick community.

"We get people from all walks of life," he said.

"They bring unique skills (and) they work very well as a team and I've met some tremendous people."

Mr Newley also agreed with State Emergency Services Minister Neil Roberts' statement that Queensland's high number of SES volunteers reflects Queenslanders' willingness to serve the community.
