NYE event features fireworks and more
TED Cowley expects families from as far away as the Gold Coast to head to Allora for the New Year's Eve Family Night at the Allora Showgrounds.
"I am hoping to attract a crowd of 2000," he said.
"We will attract a lot of patrons from Warwick and Toowoomba. Some people currently camping at the showgrounds will stay on for the family night."
A feature of the night will be the 8.30pm fireworks sponsored by David Brown and Chris Hood, of Grainx Australia, at Allora.
Mr Cowley said the Southern Downs Regional Council was sponsoring the fireworks operators on the night.
"The fireworks will go for between 12 and 15 minutes," he said.
Denny's Band with Joanne Denny singing will be the main entertainment after the fireworks.
The charge is $5 for adults (children under 16 free) and all money raised will go towards improvements at the Allora Showgrounds.
"We badly need a new shower and toilet block," Mr Cowley said.
This year's event is the third annually on New Year's Eve.
In the first year, $14,000 was raised to support the construction of the local medical centre and last year $9000 was made to upgrade facilities at the showgrounds.
The event will also include novelty sporting events, musical entertainment until midnight, movies, a jumping castle and a disco.
The Allora event is one of many on New Year's Eve.
The Warwick Gymnastics Club Masquerade Ball costs only $35, which includes a light supper and entertainment.
The ball will be held at the showgrounds but there is no parking on site.
If you are driving, a courtesy bus will pick you up from the town hall. Doors open at 7pm.

New Year's Eve is set to be a glitzy affair at Warwick's Joie De Vivre Restaurant.
Restaurant owner and event organiser Deeny Kohler-Caporale said the theme of the night was Glitz N Ritz.
"Glitz N Ritz will see in the new year in old-fashioned style," she said.
Tickets need to be pre-booked as soon as possible by phoning Deeny on 0409 054 939.
If dress-ups are your idea of fun, then the Palace Hotel has the New Year's party for you.
The theme for the Palace's New Year's Eve event is Pimps 'n' Hoes, with partygoers encouraged to come dressed in theme.
The Palace Hotel's restaurant manager Jade Mason said the night was expected to be well attended. Entry is free to the 8pm-2am event with added specials.
