NYE Warwick rodeo will welcome in 2016

WE MISSED them on Australia Day and ringing in 2015, but the Rose City sky yet may light up with fireworks at a brand new community event - the first-ever Warwick New Year's Eve Rodeo.

Warwick Show and Rodeo president Dr John Kiss and the committee made the decision to host the rodeo at a meeting last week.

"We picked New Year's Eve because we figured it was something that people of all ages can do," he said.

"The families can come down and watch the rodeo in the early evening and then those looking to party, in a safe and well run setting, can stay on.

"There will be live entertainment and a full bar running all night.

"We expect there will be a big crowd."

The aim of the rodeo is to raise funds for the committee and upgrades at the showgrounds.

Dr Kiss said the rodeo would be a stand-alone event.

"There will still be a full rodeo program and even mutton busters," he said.

"We are also looking at holding a brumby-catch event, where a horse and a rider have to catch a rope and control a brumby in the rodeo arena."

With the Warwick Show fast approaching and the Warwick Rodeo set for October, Dr Kiss said the committee was yet to get all the details in place for the event.

"Once the rodeo in October is over, we will be organising the Warwick New Year's Eve Rodeo," he said.

Dr Kiss said that at this stage there weren't fireworks, but there was certainly an opportunity for a business to sponsor a fireworks display at the event.
