Oakey trainer most likely to secure 2017 Allora Cup

Race 1: 1.15pm, Anthony Parker Painters Plate (maiden 800metres)

WHAT better way to kick-off race day than with a scamper over the 800m and, with a field of 12 engaged, you can expect a fast tempo.

REAL DYNAMITE is drawn nicely for Warwick trainer Bill Brown, and comes into the race with solid form.

Forgive his first-up run at Toowoomba where the eight-year-old was an alarming drifter in the market.

His previous two starts resulted in second placings at Toowoomba, and that is certainly good enough to be winning a race like this.

LOVER IN FLIGHT was placed in a $20,000 maiden at Coffs Harbour last start, taking her current streak of placings to four.

She was good behind a dominant $1.60-favourite, and although never threatening, she certainly rates in the finish here, despite the wide barrier.

RUMBA LAARA hasn't been out of the placings in four career starts since debuting as a four-year-old at Allman Park in January.

The mare is first-up today, and should sit on the pace from barrier four.

SUGGESTED BET: Work around REAL DYNAMITE and LOVER IN FLIGHT to win, as the race has a long tail.

Race 2: 1.55pm, Allora RSL sub branch/ Invergarry Equine Centre Hcp (Class B 1350m)

Unfortunately we won't get to see the all-conquering Ben Currie on track, with news that Cool Drafts is a scratching.

Despite that, a solid field has emerged, with a few horses bringing some attractive form into the event.

GIFTOFLIFE finally broke through at Ipswich last start, hitting the line well after being momentarily held up entering the straight.

This run will be her fifth of the preparation, however it is hard to ignore strong provincial form at a picnic meeting, especially knowing she can run out the distance.

TALIQUA rises to 1350m, after debuting at six furlongs and dropping back to 1100m for a maiden win last time out.

The three-year-old filly is forced to carry 58.5kg (56.5kg after the claim from Nicholas Keal) however she does look to have a lot more upside than other runners and will put herself into the race by sitting near the leaders.

TIME TO REMINISCE makes the trip up from Inverell, and has been racing very well at his past two outings.

The Wayne Oakenfull- trained gelding backed up a drought-breaking win at the Talwood picnics with a close-up third at Moree at big odds.

SUGGESTED BET: Happy to stick with GIFTOFLIFE for local Les Clarke.

Race 3: 2.40pm, Blue Cow Hotel/ Allora True Value Hardware Plate (maiden 1500m)

This was the hardest race on the card to find a winner in, and a simple look at the form guide will explain why.

Nevertheless there is a winner in every race and a dollar to be made.

ROCKY HALO has had just the four career starts, however he has had his hoof on the till this prep.

First up at Beaudesert, the Mark Palmer-trained gelding was beaten by over 8.5 lengths by Harold Victor, however he did finish second and there was over a length back to third.

Did well to make ground from the back at the Gold Coast last time, and it looks as though 1500m will suit.

NAUGHTY CORNER has kept fairly solid form throughout this prep, particularly if you ignore his last start 10th after he was bumped at the start.

The gelding's second at Lismore over 1516m and second behind Mustarrid (who was won again since) at Toowoomba four starts ago puts him in good stead for this.

MATCH DAY was placed sixth in the same race as Rocky Halo at Beaudesert, and didn't have the most comfortable of runs.

He gets the services of Beau Appo, and has plenty of time to find a suitable position in the run.

SUGGESTED BET: I'd be extremely surprised if the winner came outside of ROCKY HALO or NAUGHTY CORNER, however I'm leaning to the former to get the chocolates.

Race 4: 3.20pm, Railway Hotel Allora Cup (benchmark 60 1200m)

The main race on the card, the Railway Hotel Allora Cup, features an interesting field of seven runners.

Two 80-start veterans in Le Max and Writtenintherain head the weights with 62.5kg and 60.5kg respectively however the race is certainly an open affair.

MAC'S BOY, trained by Ben Park, of Oakey, is the least experienced of the field but has built a solid record of two wins and four placings from 11 career starts.

The Mac has returned in scintillating form for this campaign, running second at his first-up run when favourite at Nanango, before running home from mid-field to score at Toowoomba on August 26.

Jockey Kenji Yoshida remains aboard and the gelding trained by Ben Park is sure to get a cosy run from the inside barrier.

WRITTENINTHERAIN has amassed 12 wins and 33 placings during a long career, and can certainly add another premier finish to his tally.

The Dalby-trained gelding is facing his fourth-start this time in, and it looks like the 1200 will suit.

He didn't have a great deal of luck second-up, and could have finished closer.

LE MAX drops back to the more suitable journey of six furlongs after a last start failure at Dalby.

He has had nine weeks off since that run, and should be firing for a genuine tilt at the Allora Cup.

The nine-year-old has a win at Allman Park, as well as six wins at the distance, with the only query whether the 62.5kg impost for Shannon Apthorpe will come to play over the concluding stages.

SUGGESTED BET: MAC'S BOY has shown enough promise to rate on top here, and am happy to take anything over $3. WRITTENINTHERAIN and LE MAX are next best.

Race 5: 4pm, Pursehouse Rural Warwick/Allora Hcp (open 1100m)

The early scratching of Heza Chumley leaves a small field of five in the final race of the program.

TIN'S POCKET has settled first and last at his previous two starts, which were both good runs, and indicates that he can find a good position regardless of what happens at the barriers.

He faded out when leading at Kilcoy over six furlongs, and ran on well to narrowly miss out on second at Moree.

Brad Hudson brings this fellow down from Oakey, and he clearly looks the horse to beat in a field without much depth.

SNIPETRON has been racing in better class races than this, and although finishing out of the placings, he should figure in the finish.

The Toowoomba-trained galloper wasn't too far away at Ipswich in July, and a similar performance would go close to winning with just 55kg on his back.

TURBO TEDDY is a handy type, and does run well fresh, winning four of seven first-up assignments.

He raced well around the picnic circuits last preparation, and is drawn to get a good run from barrier three.

More than happy to include him in the better chances.

SUGGESTED BET: TIN'S POCKET to build on good form and break through for a deserved win.

BEST BET

TIN'S POCKET

The scratching of Heza Chumley plays right into the hands of the Oakey horse, which looks suited over the distance after a number of good efforts in stronger company.

NEXT BEST

ROCKY HALO

Ticks a lot of boxes in a very weak maiden in the third race of the card, and gets a chance to run on from a decent barrier.

VALUE BET

GIFTOFLIFE

It's hard to tell what prices will pop up on race day, but if you can get over $6 for the five-year-old mare, she's worth something each-way.

Enjoy the day at Allman Park, and as always, gamble responsibly.
