Officer enjoying rural lifestyle

JUST one week into his new post, Leyburn police officer Senior Constable Cameron Graham has hit the ground running.

The new officer arrived one week ago, just in time for the biggest weekend of the year for the community – Leyburn Sprints.

“It was a good weekend,” he said.

“The weather wasn't great on Saturday but there were still a lot of people and most of them were well behaved.”

Snr Cnst Graham moved from the Criminal Investigation Branch in Toowoomba to Leyburn with his wife and two daughters.

He said working at a community like Leyburn suited him well.

“I've always wanted to do small station policing,” he said.

“Knowing most of the people is good, and you get to talk to people not just when something is wrong.

“I hope I stay here a while and while I'm here, I want to get involved in the community.”

Responding to call-outs involving mates didn't worry Snr Cnst Graham, who said people accepted it as part of his job.

The policeman has already won over some local car aficionados after they saw his choice of vehicle.

“It's a 1967 Holden, just an old car,” he laughed.

“A lot of people have commented on it though. There must be a few people who like old cars.”
