Ogden named best back
SAM Ogden won the trophy for best back of the carnival at the zone 5 under 35kg rugby league carnival at Cunnamulla during the school holidays.
He was captain and five-eighth for the Central Downs team which came third in a carnival contested by eight teams.
Ogden is also an accomplished cross country runner and will compete for Darling Downs in the state championships this weekend at Roma.
Neil Wilson was Central Downs coach, Ian Brady manager and former Wattles star Cameron Hamblin the trainer.
Regan Eastwell, Tyler Gillam and Sam Ogden were the three Central Downs players selected for the City versus Country game on the last day of the carnival.
Three awards are presented to the best in each team (excluding carnival trophy winners).
Regan won the best forward award, Tyler was best back and Tyrelle Ross most improved.
The carnival was contested by teams from Central Downs, Balonne Barwon, Charleville, Cunnamulla, Macintyre, Roma, Western Downs and Wynnum.
The teams in the U35kg carnival mirror the teams in the U43kg carnival which was played last week at Clifton except Warwick and South Burnett only plays in the older age carnival. Roma and Charleville are only in the U35kg carnival.
The Central Downs U35kg team comprised players from Wattles, Collegians and Eastern Suburbs and Pittsworth.
