Olympian to join Warwick team for Condy Super 9 carnival
HOCKEY: Adam Byrne isn't sure if fun will overtake the competitive instinct of his team but reckons he has a side good enough to win this weekend's Condy Vets Super9 mixed hockey at Queens Park.
Dubbed The Hackers, Byrne has a team of predominantly Warwick players who will be boosted by the inclusion of Olympian Grant Smith and two players from the Gold Coast.
"Grant played in the same team last year but we went down in the final to a Toowoomba team organised by former Warwick player Stephen Hawthorne,” he said.
"Stephen's team will be tough again and I hear there is a team coming from Brisbane with a lot of the state over 40s' team from last year.”
The Hackers also include Matt Hagenbach, Dion Phillips, Jamie Reid, Peter Rutledge, Phil Rolfe, Angela Groves, Rachael Inmon, Jannita Oldham, Grant Lambley, Rod Hansen, Peter Wallace and Craig Windle.
Kerri Fitch is the organiser of the other two Warwick teams in a field of eight. Finals tomorrow.
