On the trail of heritage
HISTORY buffs and lovers of all things local will soon be able to own a tribute to one of the region's most iconic towns.
The Leyburn and District Historical Society will launch its new Heritage Trail Brochure next weekend.
Society member Sandra Hass said the brochure had been made possible through substantial funding allocations.
"This brochure, funded by a generous grant from History Queensland, is more comprehensive than the previous version, both in the points of interest included and the descriptions provided," she said.
On the day, the society will provide morning tea in the QCWA hall, itself an historic icon, having been built in 1928.
Once the official duties have been completed, visitors are welcome to join a brief guided walk along historic Macintyre St, followed by a lunch available at the Royal Hotel.
The prominent building is the oldest continuously licensed establishment in Queensland which is still operating in its original structure.
Brochures will be available for those wishing to explore further after lunch.
The event will be held on Sunday, October 16.
Anyone wishing to attend the launch is asked to contact Tony Symonds on 4667 4172, Jenny Rauchle on 4695 0153 or Sandra Hass on 4695 0298.
