On trial for deaths of a mother and son in traffic crash

A MACKAY man charged over the deaths of a mother and son in a 2011 traffic crash at Walkerston has been committed to stand trial in the District Court.

Adam James Wisley is charged with dangerous operation of a vehicle resulting in death in relation to the double traffic fatality on the Peak Downs Hwy on September 25, 2011.

Lardeen and Matthew Glennon died as a result of the crash.

Wisley faced the Mackay Magistrates Court yesterday for the committal hand-up hearing.

The prosecution provided 32 statements and 39 exhibits to be used in the district court trial, calling five witnesses to the stand yesterday for cross-examination.

Witness David Clayton said he was the first driver to overtake a white ute that had been travelling slowly along the road, clearing it by "a little more than a car length".

He said as he was overtaking he noticed that a green Commodore was also attempting to pass.

Another witness, who was also travelling behind the white ute, said she pulled out onto the eastbound side of the road while the green Commodore was still overtaking.

The witness said she had glanced at the driver of the white ute and then when she looked back onto the road the green Commodore suddenly braked before it and a blue car collided.

Magistrate Ross Risson committed Wisley to stand trial in the District Court in Mackay at a date yet to be set.

Wisley's bail was enlarged.
