Bikers to rev up for charity
THIS October, it's all about leather vests and heart-shuddering Harleys as the Ulysses Motorcycle Club Warwick branch hold their annual Bike Thru a Bar charity ride.
To be held at the Cunningham Polocrosse fields this year, president Wayne "Angry" Farrugia said it would be one of their best yet.
"It's the first year we'll be able to invite trikes, three-wheelers and side cars because we will have a roller-door wide enough to fit through," Mr Farrugia said.
The Bike Thru a Bar concept is just that, with hundreds of revheads to mount their motorbikes and ride through a bar, raising money for various charities.
Mr Farrugia said his personal target this year was to raise $10,000 each for the Ulysses Arthritis Foundation, Leukaemia Foundation and RACQ CareFlight.
But the ride isn't just a short-lived occasion; rather, a weekend of partying and fun for all the family.
"We may be old but we still love riding and we still love partying," Mr Farrugia said.
The bar will open from 10am on the Friday and stalls will be set up around the grounds as motoring enthusiasts put their prized bikes on display.
Saturday is the big day, with 15 trade stalls, a show 'n' shine display by the Warwick Historical Motorcycle Club, pig races, karaoke, live music and much more.
"These events are usually aimed at the bikers, but this year we want everyone involved and everyone is welcome," Mr Farrugia said.
"It's all about raising money for these deserving charities."
Bike Thru a Bar kicks off on October 12-14 and costs $5 for a day entry, $10 for the whole weekend with a powered camping site and $15 donation to participate in the ride through the bar.
