One goal cruels Wolves quest for first flag in decade

FOOTBALL: Favourites Warwick Wolves went down 1-0 to St Albans in the conference grade grand final in Toowoomba football at Clive Berghofer Stadium on Sunday.

The Wolves went all season without a loss before going down in the grand final when they conceded the only goal of the match in the second half.

Coach Bernie Lopez said the Warwick team didn't play well on the day.

"We seemed to be overwhelmed by the pressure of a grand final, St Albans were better prepared for the game,” he said.

"Every player was below his best, St Albans played a physical game. We were in defence most of the game and our goalie Trust Khaulani would have stopped 10 shots at goal.”

Warwick had four shots on goal but none were successful as they endeavoured to win their first men's premiership in more than a decade.

"The goal by St Albans was scrappy as they had four or five shots before it went in,” Lopez said.
