One man dead in bad reaction to unknown substance at party

ONE man is dead and two are in critical condition after reacting to an ingested substance at a party in Mount Lindsay on New Year's Day.

Queensland Police Service said in a statement emergency services were called to the party on Hardgrave Rd about 10.20am where more than a hundred people were celebrating the holiday. 

Urgent medical care was given to several people who started to have a bad reaction to the unknown substance.

QPS said one man was declared dead at the scene.  A second man was flown to Gold Coast University Hospital and a third was flown to Toowoomba Base Hospital to be treated for the same type of reaction.

"Detectives from the Logan District Criminal Investigation Branch are on the scene," QPS said.

"Police will prepare a report for the Coroner."
