MOTORSPORT: The Historic Racing Car Club's Historic Queensland meeting this weekend will be the biggest car race meeting in the history of Morgan Park, and possibly in Queensland.

There are more than 280 entries, with competitors from five states, including Tasmania.

The large numbers mean there will be 10 grids racing, some to capacity.

There will be 50 events for the weekend meeting.

HRCC spokesman Peter Walsh said they had 77 historic touring cars lining up for the crowd-pleasing Group N races, spread over three classes.

The headline act though are the Heritage Touring Cars, which have pulled together a record field of 29 cars from four states, including Tasmania.

These are the genuine Bathurst/Australian Touring Car Championship cars from 1973-1992, ranging from the '70s Escorts, Geminis and Torana A9X, to the last of the Johnson/Shell Sierra's and the black JPS BMW M3s.

Three-time Bathurst winner and five-times ATCC champion Dick Johnson will be on hand on Saturday to see his former chariot perform and mingle with competitors and spectators alike.

Warwick motorsport star Matt Campbell is home for a break from European commitments and will race in two classes.

Practice is on Friday and racing from 8am Saturday and Sunday.
