Opals beat Russia for bronze

THE Australian Opals have emerged victorious in the bronze medal match after beating Russia 83-74 in the women's basketball.

Creating an amazing record in the Olympic's, the Opals have now won medals in five consecutive games.

The Opals outscored the Russians in every quarter and were never headed once they took a single point lead into the second quarter.

Superstar Lauren Jackson was once again the Australian's leader, scoring 25 points and bringing down 11 rebounds.

Becky Hammon was the best for the Russian's, scoring 19 points and making four assists.

The United States and France play-off for the gold medal later today.
