Openers secure victory in Condamine Cup cricket

CRICKET: Openers Pat Gordon and Lee Watts scored the required runs for Maryvale-Condamine to make it nine wins from nine games in Warwick cricket yesterday.

Batting first, Railway Hotel Rascals from Allora scored 90 all out in 16 overs.

Jake Christensen top scored with 25 for Rascals.

Kevin Bourke took 4-30 off eight overs and Pat O'Brien 3-24 off eight overs.

Maryvale's team was boosted by the inclusion of Lee Watts, a player who is part of many of the teams organised by former Queensland wicketkeeper Lew Cooper.

Watts has played in Bourke Cooper Cup games at Maryvale and scored 33 not out yesterday. Will Gordon scored his fourth half century of the season to finish 55 not out in 0-92.

Gordon has a best of 83 this season for Maryvale. He has two club half centuries and half centuries in the only two Davis Shield games so far this season.

At age 16, he is in his second season of senior cricket.

He has always opened the batting and rates the pull shot as the best aspect of his game.
