OPINION: Cycle ways not needed in Warwick
HOW many people ride bikes in Warwick?
How many people, who ride bikes in Warwick, will use these cycle ways as they're situated where they ride?
If the cycle ways are going to be those green painted bits on the sides of the roads, how will they affect traffic flow and parking along the cycle ways?
If the cycle ways are going to be an extra footpath type of set-up how will they affect the safety of pedestrians and people backing out of their driveways?
How many accidents have occurred in Warwick in the last five years where a cyclist has been seriously injured by a car hitting them?
How much will it cost ratepayers?
Aren't there better things to spend money on?
Personally, I don't think cycle ways are needed in Warwick.
Warwick isn't exactly Enoggera Road and there simply is not the number of cyclists here.
As this will be an expense of a large amount (and considering the strife SDRC is in financially) public consultation should be asked for.
Guy St would have to be one of the worst streets to have a cycle way.
It's full of round-a-bouts, schools, pedestrian crossings and businesses. It's one of the busiest streets in town.
