Orienteers aim to navigate in sprints at Australiana Park

ORIENTEERING: The second in a series of sprint orienteering events in Warwick will be this Sunday at Australiana Park.

Bullecourt Boulder Bounders Orienteering Club publicity officer Liz Bourne, said that the club's first event at Warwick West School attracted good participation from a number of families keen to try out sprint orienteering.

"As our first event for the year, it was a good way to show new people the basic map reading and navigational skills involved with orienteering,” she said.

"Participants seemed to enjoy the challenge of combining running with navigating around the school buildings and grounds and the kids also had fun finding the control markers.”

Sunday's event has starts from 4pm to 5pm. No special gear required and compasses could be borrowed. Entry cost $5, all welcome.

There would be three street courses available of approximately 7km, 5km and 3km in length plus an easy course for juniors around the park.

Anyone interested in giving street orienteering a go is encouraged to come along. The next event will be at Braeside on 25 February.
