Orienteers heading to Granite Belt event at the weekend
A STRONG group of orienteers from the Southern Downs, Toowoomba and Brisbane is expected at Applethorpe on Sunday.
Bullecourt Boulder Bounders Orienteering Club publicity officer Liz Bourne said the properties being used for the event had a good combination of lightly timbered grazing land with areas of scattered granite which would be used for the easier courses.
"We will use the more heavily timbered property with more complex granite boulders for the harder courses,” Bourne said.
"Seven courses will cater for all levels of skill. The courses have been set by Warwick elite junior orienteer and Australian representative Simeon Burrill.”
Newcomers are welcome with instruction available on map reading and navigation skills. No special gear is required and compasses can be borrowed. Details on www.oq,asn,au/event- calendar, phone 46836374 or email bbb@oq.asn.au.
