Orienteers ready for a bit of fun in the bush at Dalveen on Sunday
ORIENTEERING: A grazing property at Dalveen will be the venue for Sunday’s orienteering event being conducted by the local Bullecourt Boulder Bounders Orienteering Club.
Organiser of the event, Simeon Burrill from Warwick, said that he hoped for a good roll up on Sunday with five courses available for regular competitors as well as newcomers.
"The property combines open, runnable forest with areas of scattered granite which makes for enjoyable running as well as a real navigation challenge," he said.
"We are hoping that at lot of our juniors will be attending in preperation for the Queensland Schools Championships which will be held at the end of July. In addition, the event has attracted a number of our top elite orienteers from Brisbane who enjoy running in granite terrain."
Simeon said that local people who would like to try out orienteering were also most welcome to come along on Sunday.
"We will have short, easy courses for beginners and instruction available on the basic map reading and navigational skills,” Simeon said.
“People of all ages can take up orienteering and they can walk, jog or run, depending on their level of fitness."
The event will take place 9km north of Dalveen, off the Old Stanthorpe-Warwick Road, with starting times from 9 – 11am.
