Osman cracks bareback bronc ride victory at Mt Isa Rodeo
AFTER he finished third and second in the past two years, Gore cowboy Fred Osman has finally won the bareback bronc ride at the Mt Isa Rodeo.
Osman calls Gore, between Warwick and Inglewood, home, but is now managing the family cattle property at Cameron Corner in the far south-west of Queensland.
The family runs more than 5000 cattle on the property "Omicrom".
Yesterday, Fred was travelling to the property for the start of mustering.
His father John said he was over the moon about Fred's win at Mt Isa.
"I am that happy for Fred, it is not funny," he said.
Osman scored 78 in the first round for third and 83 in the second round for second, but had the most points overall, 161, to win by one from Matthew Makinson.
Mt Isa and Warwick are the two richest rodeos on the Australian Professional Rodeo Association circuit and a win at either can almost secure a spot in the National Finals Rodeo as the top-15 on prizemoney qualify.
Millmerran rider Peter Moffatt won both saddle bronc rounds with scores of 78 and 80 to win overall from Wandoan rider Cameron Webster.
Former Warwick cowboy Jeff Miller joined with Victorian star Terry Evison to finish second in one round of team roping in 7.45 seconds.
With the Mt Isa Rodeo over, attention will now move to the Warwick Rodeo.
Campdrafting at the Warwick Rodeo and Campdraft will start on October 21 with rough stock and timed events on October 25-27.
