Osman rides to success

GORE cowboy Fred Osman has recorded three placings in the first four rodeos on the Northern Run in the Australian Professional Rodeo Association (APRA).

Osman lived at Tibooburra, north-west New South Wales, before moving to a property at Gore, between Warwick and Inglewood.

He won the bareback ride at Emerald with a score of 83 on Blue Mist then came second at Taroom with 77.

Last Saturday, he was second in the state championship rodeo at the Australian Stockman's Hall of Fame, Longreach, with a score of 76 in bareback.

With his success on the Northern Run, Osman is in a close battle with Victorian pair Lee Bowker and Brendan Jackson for the APRA bareback standings lead.

Jackson is a former Warwick Cowboys half-back who moved south. He won at Taroom with a score of 81 and was third at Longreach and fifth at Emerald.

Both Osman and Jackson will be at the Cloncurry Rodeo this weekend then at the August 5-9 Mt Isa Rotary Rodeo.

Warwick bull rider Scott Glasby has also enjoyed success on the Northern Run.

He was one of six riders to score 83 at Emerald to finish equal third behind past Warwick Rodeo winner Matt Postle, who won with 88.

Glasby was equal fourth at Taroom and is one of 33 bull riders nominated for Cloncurry.

Warwick roper Johnny Osborne teamed with Peter Swain, of Narrabri, to finish equal sixth in team roping at Emerald. Former Warwick cowboy Jeff Miller and Shane Kenny won the team roping state title at Longreach.

There was more success for Warwick in the state championship junior steer ride with Lachlan Slade finishing fourth.
