Our 10-12 years regional athletes get a trip to Cairns

ATHLETICS: Thirty-two students aged 10 to 12 will be heading to Cairns in late October for the state school championships.

The top three in most events have been selected with two from each of the tetrathlons. Nine years athletes competed at the Darling Downs championships but won't represent the regional team at the state championships until next year.

After winning a national medal last year, Braithen Scott from Texas won the 11 years tetrathlon to give him three gold and one silver. Points are awarded for times and distances in four tetrathlon events - 100m, 800m, long jump and shot put.

Nine years athletes competed but aren't eligible to go for regional selection until next year.

Athletes to record placings but not selected in the Darling Downs team include:

William Elsley (Yelarbon) 3rd in high jump, Hayley Wainwright (Southern Downs) 3rd in long jump, Billy Bange (SD) 2nd in long jump, Wilbur Wood (Macintyre) 2nd in 80m and 2nd in 200m, Hayley Wainwright (SD) 3rd in 80m and 200m, Billy Spicer (Mac) 3rd in 200m, Harlow Fairbanks (Mac) 2nd in 200m.
