Our girls ready to beat best of Toowoomba Rugby League
RUGBY LEAGUE: The Warwick and District under-14 rugby league team beat Toowoomba Valleys in the major semi final to qualify for Saturday's grand final.
After a gala day in mid August, Warwick and District finished on top of the league.
Coach Angela Campbell said she was proud of the girls.
"It is a testament to their teamwork and dedication,” she said.
"They are a well-disciplined team with a strong attack and an even stronger defence.”
Campbell expects a large crowd at the 8.30am grand final against Highfields at Clive Berghofer Stadium on Saturday.
"There will be a large contingent of family members and team supporters at the game,” she said. "After our finals, some team members and families will travel to Stanthorpe to support their Tenterfield teammates in the Warwick and District Junior Rugby League in the under-15 league tag final.
"The girls are excited to be making history and playing in the first under-14 TRL girls' tackle final.”
Tenterfield players Bonnie Zappa and Maddison Riley are co-captains of the under-14s..
Players in key positions include hooker Matilda Mitchell (Tenterfield), half Bonnie Zappa (Tenterfield), five-eighth Piper Brady (Wattles) and fullback Maddison Riley (Tenterfield).
The Warwick and District team for the final includes players from Eastern Suburbs, Collegians, Wattles, Tenterfield and Scots PGC College.
Players from Goondiwindi, MIT Jets and Stanthorpe have also played during the season.
Good attendances at a 90-minute training session on a Monday night at Eastern Suburbs are part of the reason for the grand final appearance.
