THE representative cricket season has started for Southern Downs juniors and four have played in the Queensland Primary School Championships at the Brisbane Grammar School fields at Northgate.
Mitchell Bourke (Scots PGC), Jacob Gross (Warwick West), Caleb King (St Mary's) and Dan Brown (St Patrick's, Allora) were part of the Darling Downs team which finished fifth.
Darling Downs had two wins, two losses and missed out on a result in one game which was washed out.
Metropolitan West was the overall winner of the carnival.
On the first day of the championships, the Southern Downs players impressed in a Darling Downs win against South West.
Mitchell Bourke scored 53 runs, Jacob Gross was 30 not out , Caleb King took 1-21 off five overs and Dan Brown 1-1 off three overs. Mitchell top scored in three games for Darling Downs and scored 101 runs for the carnival.
Darling Downs coach Chris Tait said Mitchell did a good job with the bat and got better as the carnival progressed.
"Caleb bowled well in each game and both Jacob and Dan impressed and will be eligible for selection again next year," Tait said.
"Five of the team are 11 years old and could back up next year."
Caleb and Mitchell play Warwick under-15 cricket and Jacob is in the U12 competition.
Dan plays club cricket in Toowoomba.
